Rare and original Hilla RUG, Caucasus, circa 1870/80 Wool velvet on wool foundation. Bibliography: Ulrich Schurman, Albert Achdjian ( un art fondamental le Tapis ) , Edwin Gans Ruedin ( le Tapis du Caucase). Brick field decorated with two octagonal celadon medallions framing a midnight-blue and ivory cruciform medallion inlaid with a polychrome starry flower, surrounded by pomegranates in the shape of drops of water, botehs in the shape of birds' beaks, buttons, floral bulbs, combs, camels and stylized geometrically multicolored dromedaries. Size: 142 x 113 cm Careful restoration; Slight natural oxidation; Beautiful polychromy; Remarkable freshness of colors.
