EXCEPTIONAL AND VERY IMPORTANT XXth CENTURY SOAP RUG. Wool velvet on cotton foundation. Ivory field decorated with a very large central medallion with a polychrome crown of stylized flowers and foliage, surrounded by reserves inlaid with stylized breastplates bearing the coat of arms of France, with fleurs-de-lis and circled by crowns with stylized flowers and foliage. Note the symmetrical double medallions inlaid with landscapes. Four midnight-blue spandrels with scrolls of fine crenellated branches and stylized acanthus foliage in the form of polychrome horns of plenty. Old gold scrolled border forming a gilded wood frame. Dimensions: 550 x 360 cm. Good condition.
