Exceptional and fine TAPISSERIE from Brussels (Flanders) lat - Lot 74
Exceptional and fine TAPISSERIE from Brussels (Flanders) late 17th century. Exceptional and fine TAPISSERIE from Brussels (Flanders) The month of June, Sheep Shearing. In wool and silk. Late 17th century. Dim : 300 x 320 cm. (Maintenance restorations) Inspired by a cartoon from Le Maître des mois, drawings by Lucas Van Leyden, known as Lucas de Leyde (Dutch School). A similar tapestry is in the Louvre: part of a series of seven pictures painted at the Gobelins in 1721 to serve as tapestry models. They were copied by Chastellain and Yvart from old tapestries executed in Flanders to designs by "Lucas de Leyde", which were in the Garde-Meuble de la Couronne during the reign of Louis XIV. 5 paintings are missing from this suite, which was intended to represent the twelve months of the year. The Château de Fontainebleau museum holds seven cartoons for the months of January (1423), February (1424), March (1426), May (1425), June (1427), November (1428) and December (1429).
