Michel JOUENNE (1933-2021) - Lot 289
Michel JOUENNE (1933-2021)
Michel JOUENNE (1933-2021)
The road in autumn
Oil on canvas, signed lower left and titled on back.
Dimensions: 46 x 61.5 cm.
Michel JOUENNE was born in 1933 in Boulogne-Billancourt, and died in 2021 in Clamart.
He was a painter, illustrator, lithographer and sculptor. Appointed official painter of the French Navy in 1991. He was one of the many talented artists who emerged from the "young painters of the Fifties".
Considered a master of figurative painting, Michel Jouenne was also an official painter of the French Navy. A prolific artist, his works illustrate the life and natural beauty of our planet through colorful landscapes. His canvases reflect the joy of his creation. His opaque and translucent materials are astonishing.
Michel Jouenne is equally renowned for his marine paintings and Mediterranean landscapes. Inspired by the monuments and streets of Paris, he remains a lover of the South of France. Today, the Musée de Marseille is dedicated to the artist and managed by the Fondation Michel Jouenne.
All his exhibitions bear witness to a creation that never grows old. He remains attached to the gray walls and silent havens of the rocks of Eygalières, Les Baux and Moustiers.
He astonishes us with his opaque yet translucent materials, his large-scale watercolor and tinted planes, and his luminous, creamy, porcelain-like shimmers. In every canvas, it's the joy of creating landscapes or seascapes: silent landscapes set against the roar of the waves. (Guy Vignot, "Univers des Arts").
Between 1973 and 2006, Michel Jouenne received numerous awards and medals, including the Médaille d'Or des Arts des Sciences et des Lettres, the Chevalier du Mérite Culturel et Artistique and the Premier Prix de Lithographie.
