Very important and exceptional antique Meched rug, Northwest - Lot 87
Very important and exceptional antique Meched rug, Northwest Persia. Wool velvet on cotton backing. Midnight-blue field decorated with scrolls and garlands of a thousand stylized flowers in the form of popped diamonds, adorned with a large central polylobed ruby, ivory and pale green rosette with a crown of starry flowers. Four parma spandrels with floral bulbs finely drawn in polychrome. Seven borders, the main one in ruby with a semiset of multicolored cartouches inlaid with flowering palmettes. Late 19th century. Dimensions: 498 x 352 cm. (Maintenance restorations, some oxidation and slight natural wear).
