Old Yordes "Elmaleh" carpet, Asia Minor - Lot 138

Old Yordes "Elmaleh" carpet, Asia Minor Circa 1860. Wool velvet on wool foundation. A floral composition and a symbolic oil lamp sit at the center of the raspberry mihrab of this prayer rug, highlighted by a multicolored floral wreath. The mihrab's crenellated ivory vaults support stylized brick foliage. Two fuchsia flowered reserves at either end of the field. The whole is framed by a flamboyant floral border with "Moorish" battlements. The main border is adorned with an "Elmaleh" pastel "apple" motif, flanked by an outer border of old gold polychrome carnations. Dimensions: 190 x 120 cm Maintenance restorations.
