KACHAN carpet (Iran), mid-20th century Wool velvet on cotton backing. An oblong navy field with braces, covered with polychrome circular floral scrolls, supports a poly-lobed mandorla medallion, brick and ivory and sky, with floral stems. Four tiered spandrels of brick, ivory and sky foliage frame the medallion. Six ivory and sky counter-borders, with multicolored flowers and small garlands, flank the main brick one, with interlacing stems supporting exuberant polychrome corollas. Dimensions: 358 x 240cm.
